Set of 12 “Putange” Mole Traps – Aged and Odorless, Made in France – Mole Trap

Sellers of Putange traps and large pest control companies sell you new traps. But what they don’t tell you is that moles have a highly developed sense of smell and can easily detect the scent of the trap. This is generally why you never catch the mole and end up going back to buy other, more “high-performance” traps that cost you a fortune each time and get you no results. But that’s to be expected; their goal is precisely to get you to buy as many of their products as possible.

Our goal is for you to buy once and never come back because we’ve given you the solution that really works! At QuickTaupe, we remove the coppery smell from the Putange traps by aging them in the earth, following a carefully studied and very precise aging process. When you buy a Putange trap from QuickTaupe, you get a ready-to-use trap that no longer has any scent and will catch the mole on the first try without any trouble.

What is a Putange Trap?

This trap, which can also be written as piege putange, is a brutally effective type of mole trap. It is a traditional trap designed specifically to capture moles in their underground tunnels. It was named by its inventor, Mr. Putangeois, who created it in the 19th century. And if this trap is still used today, it’s because it’s highly effective!

It is a mechanical device praised for its simplicity, effectiveness, and eco-friendly nature, as it requires no chemical products.

How the Putange Trap Works

The Putange mole trap operates on a simple but formidable mechanism. It consists of two metal arms (made of copper), connected by a spring-like component. At the end of the trap, a trigger is placed between the two arms, and as soon as the trigger is touched by the mole, it springs, and the trap snaps shut on it. By the way, if you don’t know its name, the trigger is called a “plate” or “square.”

As the mole moves through its tunnel, it comes straight towards the trigger, bumps into it, and is instantly and lethally trapped.

Essential Components of the Putange Mole Trap

The traditional Putange mole trap always comes with its trigger, but other accessories should be considered (available on our website):

• The Trap: Formed by two sturdy metal arms, made of copper-plated steel or copper, designed to withstand the pressure of the soil and to snap shut instantly when activated by the mole.
• The Trigger: A small copper square that is placed at the end of the trap and which sets it off when a mole passes.
• The Putange Opening Key / Setting Tongs: A movable tool that allows you to spread the arms of the Putange mole trap to then place the trigger.
• The String: Attaches the trigger to the trap so you don’t lose it when the trap is sprung (our triggers are systematically attached to the traps)

Why Choose the Putange Mole Trap?

When faced with an invasion of molehills in the garden, many solutions are sold on the market. So why should you choose the Putange over another type of mole trap?

Here are the compelling reasons:

• A Durable Solution: Unlike solutions with firecrackers or chemical repellents, the Putange mole trap is reusable as many times as you want.
• Formidable Effectiveness: We can no longer count the number of customer testimonials on our Facebook group of over 650 members, all of whom were overrun by moles. The Putange solution is formidable, and everyone turns to it after trying all the fake solutions on the market.
• Eco-Friendly Mole Trap: The Putange mole trap is an ecological method because it uses no chemical or products that are harmful to the environment, humans, or your pets. It is a responsible choice to preserve your garden’s biodiversity.
• A Trap with No Risk to Humans: Unlike firecracker traps or other traps that stick out of the ground, the Putange slides completely into the mole’s tunnel and does not protrude. There is no risk of injuring yourself.
• Reusable: A Putange trap is a cost-effective investment because it can be reused multiple times, unlike single-use solutions.

How to Use a Putange Trap: Detailed Installation Guide

The effectiveness of the Putange trap relies heavily on its installation. Installing it correctly ensures you’ll catch the mole. We provide the entire trapping strategy in our book on traditional mole trapping, but here is a guide in a few steps to help you set Putange traps like a pro:

1. Gather the Necessary Equipment:

Before you begin, make sure you have all the equipment on hand:

• A rusted Putange mole trap, preferably (this is the case on our site).
• Putange trap tongs (or Putange key) to arm the trap.
• Gloves (to avoid leaving your scent).
• A spade or trowel (for digging).
• A marker (fluorescent marking stakes).

2. Prepare the Trap:

To prepare the trap, there are two things to do—two things that will change everything in your trapping strategy. If you don’t do them, you won’t catch moles, it’s as simple as that.

The first step is to rust the trap if you bought them somewhere other than our site, since on our site we deliver them already aged in the earth. This step is crucial to mask the smell of new metal and make the mole trap invisible so as not to arouse the mole’s suspicion. To do this, you can bury the traps in the ground for at least 3 weeks, or immerse them in a container of salt water for 15 days before putting them in the earth for 5 days.

Next, you must wear gloves: Always handle the trap with gloves so as not to leave your scent on it. But before touching the mole traps with your gloves, rub your gloves in dirt to give them a natural smell.

You have in your hands the most effective mole trap there is; take these 2 precautions, and you will be certain to increase your results in the mole hunt.

3. Identify an Active Tunnel:

• Locate fresh molehills: These are the most recent mounds of dirt, a sign of recent mole activity.
• Probe the ground: Using a metal rod, probe the ground between two molehills to locate the tunnel. You will feel a void when you have found it.
• Open the tunnel: With your spade or trowel, gently open the tunnel by removing the dirt. Make sure the section of the tunnel is straight.

4. Install the Trap:

• Arm the trap: Insert the key into the trap, apply pressure to open the arms, then place the plate (the small square) 1 cm from the edge to keep the trap armed.
• Position the trap: Gently place the armed trap in the tunnel, making sure it is stable.
• Double your chances: Install two traps, one on each side at the entrance and exit, because you don’t know which way the mole will come from.

5. Camouflage the Trap:

• Fill the tunnel back in: Close the opening of the tunnel with dirt, or use a slate tile to cover the hole.
• Mark the location: Plant a stick or the fluorescent stakes we provide on our site to mark the trapped molehills with the Putange and find them easily later.

6. Check Regularly:

• Check the traps: Go to the location 48 hours after installation to check if a mole has been caught.

• Re-arm or move the traps: If a mole has been caught, remove the trap with gloves and bury the mole wherever you choose. If the mole has filled in the tunnel without being caught, replace the trap correctly.

• As a preventive measure, set traps again; sometimes there are several moles in the same underground tunnels.

Expert Tips for Successful Mole Trapping

To maximize your chances of success in your fight against moles, here are some additional tips:

• Eliminate human odors: This is the key to success! Moles have a very developed sense of smell, so it is crucial not to leave your scent on the trap. Use gloves and make sure to rust the traps well.
• Choose the right molehills: Focus on the freshest molehills, which are a sign of recent activity.
• Trap all year round: Moles do not hibernate; they are active all year, so you can trap in any season.
• Be quick: Moles don’t like drafts, so they will try to quickly fill in any open tunnels. Act fast to install your traps.
• Be patient and persistent: Trapping sometimes requires a little patience. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch a mole on the first day. Check and re-arm your traps regularly.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Trapping Moles

Even with the best traps, certain mistakes can compromise your efforts. Here are the most common ones:

• Poorly cleaned or collapsed tunnel: Make sure the tunnel is clean and clear to allow the mole to move freely.
• Poorly set trap: A poorly armed trap will not trigger correctly (see instructions in our book).
• Poorly filled-in tunnel: A bad seal on the tunnel can deter the mole from venturing into it.
• Trap placed in a junction: Avoid areas with forks, curves, descents, or ascents; prioritize straight sections.

Where to Buy a Quality Putange Trap ?

Be careful online and in stores; there are a huge number of Chinese copies of the Putange trap. They talk about putange but they are not the traditional traps; they are imitations that are much thinner and not at all effective.

Just last week, we were called by a homeowner who had bought these traps at a big-box store and naturally had no results with them.

That’s why we recommend you go through our QuickTaupe site to buy your traditional Putange traps. Our traps are made in the North of France, and we age them ourselves for several weeks in the earth to prevent the smell of the metal from being detected by the mole.

With our traps, you are guaranteed to have a solution that is robust, durable, ecological, and above all, effective against moles.
