An example of a cheap Chinese knock-off sold in large retail stores that breaks easily.
This article focuses on choosing genuine Putange traps, a crucial step for applying our comprehensive mole trapping guide.
Buying a putange trap: Beware of counterfeits! Only the true putange trap works!
Today, with globalization, the Chinese are producing fake copies of the Putange trap (I will show you photos to demonstrate this). When you buy Putange mole traps online or in stores, large retail chains sell you Chinese Putange traps. They are:
-
Imported by the thousands in containers
-
Much thinner than the genuine trap
-
Much more slippery than the traditional Putange
-
Much less robust than the genuine Putange trap
This always comes at the expense of customers and material quality. Buying a Putange mole trap isn’t done in supermarkets or on Amazon, but on specialized websites like QuickTaupe. I’m telling you this because it makes absolutely all the difference in mole trapping.
The Putange traps we sell on QuickTaupe are manufactured in France from 6mm copper-plated steel, respecting the traditional model. It’s this steel quality that will then allow you to properly age your traps to make them undetectable.
If you have the Chinese copies of the genuine Putange trap, you’ll end up like our dear Nathalie, who eventually bought genuine traps from us and caught her mole the next day.

Be careful to choose the right Putange traps, otherwise you won’t catch any moles. The trap will slip on its own and trigger without a mole, and after a few uses, it will eventually bend and simply stop working. This is very common feedback; I’ll show you some examples:

Another example of a cheap Chinese knock-off from Amazon, made with flimsy material that easily bends out of shape.

You can’t catch moles with flimsy traps from China that just bend out of shape.
To prove the blatant difference, I myself bought these Chinese copies available on Amazon and in large retail stores.
The result is undeniable, as you will see. In the photo below, you will see side-by-side a genuine QuickTaupe Putange trap (in green) and a Chinese copy (in red).
Notice the difference in steel thickness, the copper finish, and the overall robustness.
The problem is that on shelves or online, you can’t tell the difference unless you have the original Putange trap right next to it for comparison!

Notice how the genuine Putange trap holds its shape even after decades, while the counterfeit version bends and loses its effectiveness after just a few uses.

Genuine Putange traps, the ones we provide on our website, don’t just last for 3 or 4 uses; they last a lifetime. To give you an idea, sometimes I’m at clients’ homes, and I find myself using traps the previous owner left 50 years ago.
Don’t waste your time and money on imitations any longer. Choose quality, efficiency, and durability: opt for genuine Putange traps made in France, available exclusively on QuickTaupe.
Also, what’s incredible is that a copy of the genuine Putange setting pliers is also manufactured in China, imported, and resold by distributors in Europe. And unfortunately, it doesn’t allow you to properly open the trap, as I explain in this other comparison about Putange pliers. Don’t fall for it!
